Le Petit Coco

With her debut “No Man’s Land” she went straight into the Dutch album charts. She shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin and toured with Beth Hart and Seasick Steve. In the Netherlands Qeaux Qeaux Joans (pron.: Coco Jones) has left the status of an insider tip far behind. Norah Jones, Feist and Leslie Clio are just some of the greats she has been compared with. However, Qeaux Qeaux creates her very own style of singer-songwriter pop, full of blues and soul. Having had 10 years of piano lessons as a child, Qeaux Qeaux started experimenting with guitar in 2010.

On stage, Qeaux Qeaux lives her music. She becomes one with it, no matter if it’s a spontaneous jam session in the city of Amsterdam or a festival performance in front of thousands of listeners. She is always a 100 per cent musician. With her wistful voice and charismatic appearance, Qeaux Qeaux communicates emotions without literally singing about them. From fragile moods and a grounded force, this exceptional artist unleashes her stories – and lives the true beauty and power of music. The previous 2 albums were produced by the well-known Dutch producer Reyn Ouwehand (Vanessa Paradis, Ane Brun and others), she presents a sensational debut that was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by Blackbird Music on June 14th, 2013.

You might believe in fate or you might not. In the end, it’s all about decisions that influence our lives. In 2009 Qeaux Qeaux spontaneously jumped on stage in the Amsterdam Paradiso during a show of Seasick Steve. The U.S. blues musician was blown away and cancelled all his booked opening acts for 2011 to give the place to Qeaux Qeaux and her band. This subsequently also led to an appearance on the national TV program ‘De Wereld Draait Door’.

Qeaux Qeaux always had one goal in mind: to make music. However, her songs give the impression as if she has already passed through many different lives.

When she was only seven years old she wrote her first song. At 17 she was admitted to the Amsterdam Conservatory – where she studied for 4 years, though not graduating. Instead of neatly following her 9-hour singing lessons, Qeaux Qeaux could be found jamming amongst blues musicians in the centre of the Amsterdam nightlife. When you have such a strong conviction about the journey you must take, there is no structure or authority to tell you otherwise. Later on, she toured with Beth Hart, and shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin.

In 2016 it gets quiet around the singer. She decides to leave the stage as she finds herself in a burn-out. Qeaux Qeaux also had to find a way back to music again, after the industry left such a mark of disappointment She cut all ties with the record companies she was signed with and started her long journey inwards. In 2019 she joins her band, which is based in Berlin, with a writing boot camp and Qeaux Qeaux writes one song after the other, questioning her goals and her choice to leave the music industry for good.

In March 2020, she travels back to Berlin to record a demo with her band, when the pandemic hits. The Lockdown slows down the project but when in August 2020 the restrictions are lifted, and she and her bandmates hit the studio for more demos and accidentally bump into the producer they worked with during the songwriting sessions in 2019. They decide to record the new album in October 2020. But unfortunately, Qeaux Qeaux gets infected with Corona. And a heavy one. For over two years she needs to recover and rehabilitate. Unable to walk for 4 months, followed by terrible migraines, extreme hyperventilation and impossible to sing, she is forced to, again, retreat from her life as a musician in the spotlights. As much as she was unable to do a lot of things, she never stopped writing. Resulting in a bunch of new songs. Besides getting prepared for recording the vocals for the new upcoming EP/Album, she is focusing on a 4-day tour, in Germany, with Regina Mudrich. Songs from the Ritual and No Man's Land, combined with some of the new songs she wrote, in a classical performance of just voice, piano and violin. A tour that will be extended in 2023, Working with Jean Philipp Dusse (former founder of FUNKHAUS BERLIN) for special sound design that has not been done in pop/classical music before.

Meanwhile, she works together with producer LAUTMALHER from time to time, resulting in the release of DAYDREAMING and LAST NIGHT (release 11-11-22)

Qeaux Qeaux Joans understands that the specific setbacks she has faced in her life are now mirrored in the depth and sensitivity of her music. Not as a conscious choice, but as a silent understanding – a belief. The darkness as well as the light, both shape an equal part in the layering and measure of her musical canvas.
